ENGLEWOOD, Colo. – Safety Brian Dawkins and fullback Spencer Larsen were the only Broncos to sit out on Thursday as they continued preparations for the wild-card game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
A collection of photos from the first periods of the practice follow:

Brian Dawkins was left watching practice on the sideline once again ...

... but Eddie Royal returned a few minutes into the session after sitting out Wednesday with a toe injury.

Broncos owner Pat Bowlen watches the work, which took place in 62-degree conditions.

The Broncos haven't had a takeaway since Week 14, so the fumble-recovery drill is of particular importance. Here, David Bruton awaits the football.

More fumble-recovery work: D.J. Williams ...

... Joe Mays ...

... Derrick Harvey ...

... and Champ Bailey.

Austin Sylvester could make his NFL debut in mammoth circumstances if fullback Spencer Larsen can't return from a sprained knee by Sunday.

Brady Quinn fires away.

Matt Willis goes airborne for the grab.

Jeremiah Johnson works on his blocking against Xavier Omon.
